How Veganism Is Helping In Reducing Carbon Footprint

Going vegan requires a lot of effort and a sincere and dedicated mindset. It is almost like a lifelong commitment. Well, the basic concept of veganism through a popular or mass understanding is a little narrow and is confined strictly to only the diet that refrains from using animal products and thrives on something which is green and healthy. However, there is a lot more to it. Little do people know that Veganism is actually it is a way of life; a lifestyle! And while it comes with a plethora of benefits for those who practice it, its advantages are not only confined to the individual only. In fact, it is in numerous ways beneficial to the environment too.

Have you read the environment? And wondering that is this seriously an issue for the environment as well?

Yes, you read it right; there are a lot of effects on the environment of this! In fact, veganism according to some has been deemed as the single biggest way to fight against the negative environmental impact. Studies have found out that avoiding dairy and meat can actually reduce your carbon footprint to a great extent. Research conducted by the Oxford University showed that eliminating meat and dairy products from your diet can bring down the individuals’ carbon footprint by up to 73%.

Imagine if everybody goes vegan then this can reduce the global farmland use by a whopping 75%. Veganism can also free up wild land lost to agriculture and reduce the rate of extinction and deforestation.

Meat and dairy products are responsible for about 60% of greenhouse gas emissions. This, in turn, can lead to other problems such as climate change, pollutions of air, water, etc. Hence going vegan and bidding goodbye to your meat and dairy can also help with global acidification, land use, water use, and eutrophication problems.

So, if we practice veganism, or give it a thought, all of us together can reduce carbon emissions and combat the biggest problem that the world is facing at the moment- climate change! Around 51% of the worldwide greenhouse gas emissions are attributed to animal agriculture. Hence imagine how cutting down on the products that come from cattle, goats, buffalos, pigs, camels, can help make our environment a better place.

As the awareness for a better environment increases, it also becomes the responsibility of an individual to do their share of work. While it is still a matter of choice, vegan diet and veganism as a lifestyle leave potential in everyone to help in halting climate change by simply thriving on delicious plant-based foods.
